What Is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a method of restoring and reshaping your teeth using a composite dental resin. This resin is similar to the material used for tooth-colored fillings. Dr. Au will apply the resin material directly to your tooth and then sculpt and shape it until it looks just like a natural part of your tooth.

Dental bonding is highly versatile. It can be used to repair chipped teeth, reshape misshapen or uneven teeth, cover up severe tooth stains, and more. It’s also very affordable, so it’s right for almost any budget. Compared to a treatment like veneers, for example, dental bonding is much less expensive.

It also provides immediate results. You can have multiple teeth treated in just a single appointment, restoring your smile quickly. Another benefit of dental bonding is that it’s completely non-invasive. We don’t have to remove any of your natural enamel, so there is no need for a dental drill or any numbing needles, in most cases.

How Does Dental Bonding Work? Understanding the Process

Dental Bonding Process
First, you’ll need to schedule a cosmetic consultation with Dr. Colin Au to determine if bonding is right for you. If he approves you for bonding, he’ll take some impressions and images of your teeth, and start developing your treatment plan.

Once your treatment plan has been finalized, you’ll come into our office to have your teeth treated. Dr. Au will begin by cleaning and drying your teeth and applying an acid solution to the enamel. This acid does not damage your teeth, but it roughens them up a little to allow a stronger hold for the bonding material.

Next, Dr. Au will select a composite resin material that matches your teeth perfectly, and apply it directly to your tooth. Once the resin is in place, Dr. Au will begin sculpting it and shaping it with special dental tools.

When the overall shape is right, he will harden the resin with UV light. Then, he will continue to trim and refine the tooth until it looks perfect. Finally, your bonded tooth will be polished and buffed to match the shine of your surrounding teeth, completing the procedure
