Minimally invasive Dental Implants

Our Dental Implant ServicesA dental implant is a replacement tooth using a titanium post for the root and a porcelain crown attached to the post via a connecting piece called an abutment. Dental implants can also be used to support dental bridges and dentures.

Dr. Colin Au and our associate Dr. Scott Dault partner to provide our patients with high-quality minimally invasive dental implant services. Dr. Dault is a periodontist, an expert in dental implants and gum and bone tissue, and has many years of experience in dental implants. He takes care of all the implant surgery while Dr. Au employs his training and experience in aesthetics and dental restoration to create natural-looking crowns and other restorations that will attach to the dental implant.

Single Implant Anterior Immediate Load

All the treatment is completed in the comfort of our practice. We use a Cone Beam CT Scanner to capture a full 3D 360º view of the teeth and jaw area. This allows Dr. Dault to plan the implant surgery ahead of time so that instead of having to open up the gum and jaw, he can immediately and precisely place the implant. This eliminates the need, in most cases, for any cutting or suturing, making surgery a relatively comfortable and quick procedure, and causing little post-surgery discomfort.

Quality Implant treatment for a lifetime of functionality

Using 3D imaging, Dr. Dault does meticulous planning ahead of time to make the actual implant surgery fast and minimally invasive.

You don’t want to cut corners when it comes to teeth replacement. Teeth not only have to function well for proper chewing, they also are important to maintain healthy for the sake of your overall health. Dr. Dault doesn’t compromise with either the quality of his treatment or the materials he uses. Cutting corners equals failing implant treatment or a shortened life span for the implant and restoration. Dr. Dault does careful pre-planning so that all factors are taken into consideration and an optimum treatment path is devised.

Properly done, and with adequate oral care by the patient, dental implants can last a lifetime.

High-tech diagnostics

Our Dental Implant ServicesIf you decide that dental implant treatment is for you, your next step is to get full diagnostics. This starts with our 3D Cone Beam dental CT scanner which takes 3D 360º images of your teeth and jaw. The X-rays are focused via a cone beam onto the precise areas of treatment, employing a fraction of the radiation used by medical CT scanners.

Dr. Dault conducts a thorough oral exam and reviews your dental and medical history. He takes other records he might need, such as digital X-rays and intraoral and external photos. He takes impressions of your teeth and gums with which to make a study model.

Meticulous planning

Dr. Dault uses 3D software to view and manipulate the 3D images captured by the cone beam. He can see in 360º view the exact position of your teeth, nerves and gums. He can measure your bone depth and assess if bone grafting is needed.

He uses all the information gathered, the study model and the 3D imaging to create your treatment plan, including plotting the precise position and angle of the dental implant placement.

Surgical guides

Our Dental Implant Services

A surgical guide is created to ensure the exact position and angle of the implant.

Dr. Dault uses surgical guides to ensure precise implant insertion. For more complex cases, Dr. Dault creates a surgical guide using the 3D software. The surgical guide is positioned over the gums during surgery to guide the implants into the most ideal position. This makes the surgery quick, safe and predictable. It also significantly reduces the risk for nerve damage, sinus perforation and arterial damage.

Where extractions are needed, Dr. Dault takes out the tooth very carefully, usually in pieces, so as to preserve the shape of the socket and to minimize damage to the surrounding bone and gums. He can immediately place the implant and a bone graft as necessary.

Bone Grafting and Sinus Augmentation: Augmenting the bone level

Our Dental Implant ServicesIf teeth have been missing for a long time you will have experienced bone loss. In the first year after extraction or tooth loss, 25% of the bone is lost to bone resorption and the bone loss continues. In some cases, bone is lost prior to tooth loss due to severe periodontal disease.

Where there is too little volume of bone to sustain an implant, Dr. Dault sometimes has to augment the bone either by doing a bone graft or by augmenting the amount of bone between your jaw and sinus.

A lot of the time Dr. Dault can place the bone graft at the same time as the implant, unless the bone is severely compromised. Sinus augmentations (also known as Sinus Lifts) usually need to be done separately to the implant surgery.

Because of our 3D cone beam scanner, we can avoid bone grafting in certain procedures despite bone loss. The 3D scanner helps Dr. Dault to find available bone and then special techniques allow him to take full advantage of that bone.

Speeding healing

Dr. Dault takes advantage of recent innovations in healing using growth factors found in human tissue and blood platelets to stimulate tissue repair. This is known as Guided Tissue Regeneration. At the time of implant placement, Dr. Dault places the growth factor gel all around the implant at the gum.

Your comfort is important

We know that any kind of dental treatment can be trying or even traumatic for the patient. We provide a variety of amenities to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure.  On top of the right amount of local anesthesia to keep you out of any pain, we also offer oral sedation to keep you relaxed. We keep in good communication with our patients throughout the process, listening to any concerns and explaining the procedures ahead of time. Dr. Dault and Dr. Au and all our staff are friendly and reassuring.

You can also enjoy music headsets or our iPads.

High-quality new teeth

Once your dental implant has been placed, Dr. Au puts on a functional temporary restoration (a crown, bridge or denture, depending on the procedure) while the implant is healing. Healing usually takes about two to three months.

Our Dental Implant Services

Once the implant site has healed, your final crown is placed.

On your return, Dr. Au creates your permanent restoration. For single-tooth implants and dental bridges, he fits a titanium or zirconia abutment that connects the implant with the replacement tooth and takes impressions in preparation for your new tooth or teeth.

Our replacement teeth are fabricated from high-grade materials by our excellent lab, ensuring an aesthetic and natural-looking finish.

Our single-tooth replacement crowns are made from durable, translucent porcelain, as are our implant-supported dental bridges. We use a very natural-looking acrylic for our implant-supported dentures.
