Invisalign® Clear Teeth Straightening in Sunnyvale

Beautiful, straight teeth without metal braces

InvisalignWith more than 15 years achieving results in teeth straightening and adjusting bites, Invisalign has been proven to be an effective alternative to metal braces.

Instead of metal brackets attached to the teeth, Invisalign uses tray-like plastic “aligners” that are comfortable and virtually invisible. Straightening is achieved through a series of aligners that are designed to move your teeth to their final, straight position.

Dr. Colin Au treats both teens and adults with Invisalign. He first of all evaluates the teeth and bite (how the teeth come together) to ensure that Invisalign will work well for you or your teen.

How Invisalign works

Invisalign treatment takes approximately a year for adults, and for teens about the same time as treatment with braces. As the teeth won’t be covered by wires and brackets, the positive changes will be visible as treatment progresses.

Planning your treatment

We will get any of your questions answered about your Invisalign treatment.

Dr. Au takes digital X-rays, photos and impressions of your teeth, which Invisalign uses to create digital 3D images of your teeth. Dr. Au uses these to map out a precise treatment plan, including the exact movements of your teeth. He can show you a virtual representation of how your teeth will move with each stage of treatment, and let you know the approximate length of treatment.

Custom aligners based on your treatment plan

Using Dr. Au’s individual treatment plan, Invisalign creates a series of custom-made, clear aligners. These aligners are made of a smooth, BPA-free plastic that won’t irritate your gums like traditional metal braces often do.

It’s recommended to wear the aligners for 20-22 hours in a day. You can take the aligners out to eat and to brush and floss your teeth.

Gradually straightening your teeth

Approximately every two weeks you will change your aligners. Each set of aligners gently shifts your teeth into a new position, and then the next one takes it a little further. You will meet with Dr. Au every six weeks or so to monitor your progress.

When your treatment is done, you’ll have a brand new smile!

Conditions Invisalign can fix

Invisalign treatment can fix a wide variety of problems with teeth and bite alignment, from mild cases of crooked teeth to much more difficult problems involving serious bite issues.

Here are some of the main conditions Dr. Au can fix with Invisalign:

  • Overly crowded

InvisalignOverly crowded teeth are the result of there not being enough room for all the teeth to fit comfortably in the jaw. Often, the lower teeth suffer from this condition.

  • Overbite

InvisalignAn overbite can cause painful jaw and joint problems, as well as gum irritation and wear on the lower teeth.

  • Underbite

InvisalignAn underbite can cause undue stress on the lower teeth as well as jaw and joint problems.

  • Gaps in Teeth

InvisalignGaps in teeth can occur with abnormal continued growth of the jawbone, or when there are missing teeth causing adjacent teeth to shift. Spacing issues can lead to increased risk of gum disease.

  • Open Bite

InvisalignThis is when some teeth are unable to make contact with the opposing teeth for a proper bite. An open bite can cause poor or painful chewing as well as problems with the jaw joint.

  • Crossbite

InvisalignA crossbite occurs when one or more upper teeth bite on the inside of the lower teeth. This can cause teeth wear, gum disease and bone loss.

If you have one of these conditions,  or another issue with your teeth’s straightness or bite that you don’t see above, please contact us to schedule your free Invisalign consultation. Dr. Au will evaluate your situation and create a custom plan for you.
